Why is it so hard for the camera makers to put a flip LCD on "serious" DSLRs?? I don't get it. That would make self portrait so much easier. Photographers needs pictures of themselves, too!
So to help compose and pose, I put a mirror behind the tripod so I could see myself and the back of the camera. Focus was a big problem , self-timer simply doesn't work, because it will focus on the background when I press the shutter...so a remote is a must. Face recognition works on frontal portraits very well, but the 3 quarter face somehow it always focus on the back eye instead of the front one...So I had to turn face to the camera to focus and then turn back to quarter face position during the 2 second timer, finally solved the problem...
Here's another one shot with a 24mm(36mm full frame equivalent) lens hand held, with a warmer color treatment. There is too much distortion for my taste but some people like the big-eyed effect ... here the back eye is tack sharp but the front one is a little soft ... Gotta be super careful with the focus point when the lens is wide open.
